Horton

This card of Horton was sent in June of 1914

--Lynda Ray, March 15, 2000

Note: After this photo was put online, the following information came in from Bob Norton

I thought you might be interested in knowing that the photo of Horton that Lynda Ray contributed shows the Johnston Store (with the post office sign) on the left and the Hotel Leroy on the right. On Jan 23, 1916 the hotel burned down killing my GGreat Uncle Oscar Norton, his son Floyd and Eugene Dresser from Binghamton (not local but WORKING on the road project). The hotel was also known as the Harkington Hotel prior to the Leroys' purchase of it. It was apparently the favorite watering-hole for workers on the state road project in 1916 as well as the workers at the local acid factories. The hotel was owned by Oscar's daughter Millicent and son-in-law Henry Leroy.
