ARTICLES OF SEPARATION: ABNER & BETSEY OGDEN, 1836

Articles of Agreement made this 8th day of December
in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred
and thirty six between Abner Odgen of the one part and
and Betsy Ogden formerly Betsy Case of the town of Franklin
County of Dellaware and State of New York Witnesseth that
the said Abner Odgen & the said Betsy Case were lawfuly
married to each other in the said town of Franklin by Elder
Spalding on the 9th day of January in the year of our lord
one thousand eight hundred and seventeen and that
the said Abner and the said Betsy for divers good and
sufficient causes to them subsequently revealed could
not agree to live together as husband and wife and that they
they have not lived together as husband and wife for more
than eight years next preceding these presants Now therefore these
articles witnesseth that the said Abner & the said Betsy
volanterily & of their own free will by these presants
volanterily agree that from the date of these presants
the marriage contract sa by them made as afforesaid
shall be considered by the said parties abragated
and void and that the relation of husband and
wife shall in all respects be considered done away
and of no binding force or affect whatsoever between
the said parties giveing each party as far as they have
power to do to contract matrimony and marry without
interfereance suit or trouble from either of the said
parties or by their aid procurement or assistance
in any respect whatsoever And the said Abner by
these presants forever quits claims to the said Betsy
and to her heirs all right of down of any Estate
real or personal that the said Betsy has now in possession
of or may hereafter come in possesion of And further
the said Betsy by these presants forever quits all claims to the
said Abner and or his heirs all right of down of any real
estate in which the said Abner may hencafter become siezed
and also relinquished all claim to any Estate real or personal
of which he may hereafter be possesed
In witness whereof the said parties have set their hands and seals the day and year afforesaid
