GAVETT FARM CEMETERY

In Ulster County, the Gavett Farm cemetery on Ploutz Rd. is just over the border from Delaware County. The area was settled by George Washington Gavett and his wife Delilah Green. Their descendants are buried in the other Gavett Cemetery on Millbrook Road. Both of their large stones are in that burying ground which I visited over 25 years ago.George Washington Gavett tombstone had been broken off and stuck back in the ground. As I remember, Delilah's stone was flat on the ground. There was a large farmhouse and the burying ground is in the large field below the house. It contains many field stones as grave markers and was surrounded by field stones as a very low border. Ploutz Road was a gravel Road off Millbrook Road when I was there. I do not know who owns the property now. --Helen Shaver Rogers
