OFFICERS OF PEPACTON GRANGE #1407
Photo taken (ca. 1960) at the Pepacton Grange Hall on Tannery Road. The building is now the Town Hall and the corner where this was taken is probably the supervisor's office.
Front row (l to r): Margaret Turnbull, Mabel Becker, Ruth Guttridge, Elsie Simenson, Maggie Banuat, Cora Shaw & Linnea Mattson; 2nd row: Irving Guttridge, Rosebud Gray, Theo Baldwin, Mabel Neff, Idabelle Tait, Margaret Salton, Fred Banuat, Perry Champlin & Alton Neff; back row: Jim Stanton, Bill Bouw, Pang Gray, Wendall Salton & Howard Tait. the little girl in the front of the photo is Gale Lorraine Spoor.
Further clarification - The picture commemorates the Dedication of the Grange Hall - the new building necessary because the Hall in Pepacton, due to the dam, was no longer available. For quite a few years, the meetings were held in rooms over the A & P store (no longer there) on main street until there was enough money raised to build the new Hall on Tannery Rd. Gale was given a gift because she served as Bible Carrier during the Dedication Ceremony. It is that gift that she is holding. Howard & Idabel Tait are Gale's grandparents. Sadly, these are all deceased except for Gale. Margaret Turnbull & Margaret Salton were both teachers at Downsville Central School and were among the best that school ever had. If a student didn't know or understand something, they usually knew why. --Harriett Schultz, September 2, 2005
