The Human Interest Publication of the Southern Tier and Central New York State July 1955, pages 7-10 published by The Deposit Courier Co.,Inc. Courier Bldg. 138 Front Street Deposit-on-the-Delaware New York. The cost was 25cents.
Note: What a surprise! A picture of the Colchester Covered Bridge I don't have! Please note that the presently known Colchester Covered Bridge is the Downsville Covered Bridge. The Colchester Covered Bridge was located in the hamlet of Colchester, midway between Corbett and Downsville. The picture above from The Deposit Courier was probably taken in 1946 or before July in 1947. The cupola blew off the barn in a severe windstorm. I believe this was during the summer of '45 or '46. If God had not been protecting me that day, I would not be writing you. That's another story. According to my mother, Mabel B. Neff's notes on a picture of the bridge & my memory, the bridge was boarded up & closed to traffic in July 1947. The picture was taken from the NYS Rte 30 side. --Betty Watson, August 11, 2004
The picture above of the Colchester Bridge submitted by Bonny Bouck Wilson Nov. 11, 2011 originally included the picture and the written portion above the first line across the page. The writing below the page stating the picture is taken from NYS Route 30 and shows the Neff farm was submitted by Betty N. Watson. A correction would be greatly appreciated. As it is written now, it appears the farm was once owned by Bonny Bouck Wilson’s parents. -- Betty N.
