ABBE-ABBEY FAMILY
I’m writing an updated version of the Abbe-Abbey family genealogy. Peter Abbey, Enfield CT, m. Hannah Alden (of John Alden lineage) and eventually (1798) moved to Franklin, then to Watertown. Last summer I spent a few weeks in Massachusetts and Connecticut researching Abbe’s there and hope - one day soon - to make my way to NY state. These are the Abbey (children of Peter and Hannah) born, married, died in your area. Thanks, Molly Abbey Ashman Shannon. 23 April 2020
- Fanny Abbey, b. Enfield, Hartford, Connecticut 7 Sep 1789; m. abt. 1810 Orlo Steele, of Oswego, New York.
- Dorrephus Abbey, b. Enfield, Hartford, Connecticut 13 Jul 1792; m. Suffield, Hartford, Connecticut abt 1815 Catherine Clark, b. Suffield abt 1794. (see Side Bar) - I found his will in the Philadelphia, Jefferson Co NY site: http://jefferson.nygenweb.net/wills/dorephusabbywill.htm - seems he may have been hung for a crime he did not commit (or at least pled not guilty) at Ft. Henry. He was part of a group called the “Hunters Lodges” which I will have to research. a militia of some sort, not good it appears!
