VANHOSEN - My 3rd Great-grandfather was Cornelius Northrup Vanhosen (1817-1876), a native of New York State. There are numerous variations of the name including Vanhoosen, Vanhoesen, Vanhousen, Vanhusen; but they all seem to trace their lineage to the Albany/Hudson Valley region. Cornelius arrived in Iowa in the early 1840's and always gave his own birthplace (and that of his parents) as New York. Following his death, some of his offspring began reporting that Cornelius was born in Holland. However, there is some evidence to suggest that he was a descendant of Albert Vanhoesen who settled near Delhi in Delaware County, NY with some of his own sons between 1800-1810. The Northrup name was also quite prominent here and I believe there was a connection to this clan. Anyone with information or suggestions, please respond.
