My sister, Shirley A. Vicere, and I have been searching the Hancock Herald, Delaware Co., NY for information on our great uncle John W. Snyder. We have found a great deal of information on him, his family and neighbors and friends. The following excerpts are of our interest and by no way complete information that is in those newspapers. --Donna K. Gigliotti

1898

January 06 Large Measles Outbreak throughout the county.

Goulds - Charles BIFFAR and family of Peakville, spent Christmas at his father-in-law's, John BIEDEKAPP.

January 27 Rock Valley - The Ladies Aid will meet the second Wednesday in February at Mrs. John SNYDER's.

February 24 Rock Valley - E. J. HAIGHT has returned from Bernhord's Bay, where he has been spending a few months.

March 10 Rock Valley - There will be a necktie party at Jerome RICKARDS, Friday night, the 11th.

Some went from this place to the Gould school house to attend the funeral of a little baby of Abner Milks. As no minister could be secured, the funeral services were not held at that time. The family has the sympathy of their many friends.

March 17 Goulds - There has been 58 cases of the measles and others have been exposed. Among the latest to be attacked by the disease were Mrs. A. L. MILK and baby girl, who was about four months old. March 1st the baby died. The family has the sympathy of their many friends and the consolation that their baby has gone where there is neither sickness or death.

March 24 Rock Valley - March 21- James ROSE and family have moved into rooms in the Grange building.

Walter HAIGHT is teaching school at Fernwood.

Jasper HAIGHT is preparing the move his colony of bees from the Basket to Fernwood.

Lewis SNYDER of Peakville, was a guest at John SNYDER's on Sunday last.

E. J. HAIGHT and Charles GERLOCK are each preparing to build a house.

April 07 Goulds - The Sunday school elected A. R. GOULD, superintendent for the coming year, Lee MILK librarian and Miss Maude RYDER secretary.

April 14 Rock Valley - April 12- R. FOREST is laying the wall for the cellar of E. J. HAIGHT'S house.

April 28 Rock Valley - April 25- Mr. and Mrs. John SNYDER were surprised on Saturday night, a week ago, by a load of relatives from Girdland, Pennsylvania. The party included Mr. SNYDER's brother and sister and other relatives.

May 05 Jurors for county court - Daniel RICKARD - Goulds.

May 26 Goulds- May 24 - William MILK expects to raise his barn Tuesday.

Mrs. A. L. MILK visited friends at Pea Brook, recently..

George MILK and Charles BRAZIE attended the MEYERS sale at Pea Brook last Thursday.

June 02 Rock Valley - May 24 - Mrs. O. M. HAIGHT has been confined to the house with rheumatism.

June 09 Rock Valley - June 6- Mr. and Mrs. Walter HAIGHT took a trip to Downsville not many days ago.

June 30 Rock Valley- June 21 - Walter HAIGHT finished his term of school at Fernwood on Friday last. Had quite a picnic, with ice cream, cake, etc.

Mrs. CARR, from the Basket, is at present working for E. J. HAIGHT.

John SNYDER has gone to Honesdale.

Mrs. H. L. HAIGHT of Norwich, is visiting friends in this place.

Ladies Aid will meet on next regular meeting day at Mrs. Jerome RICKARD's. Don't forget.

E. J. HAIGHT has bought a cold of A. P. HALSEY.

July 28 Rock Valley - July 25- Visitors at present in this section, at Gustave BIEDEKAPP's' two brothers of Mrs. BIEDEKAPP; Mr. Greggs from Penna. at A. Y. HAIGHTS; Elwood SMITHS from Metuchen, NJ at E. J. HAIGHTS; his daughter from Oneonota; Mrs. D. L. TERRELL and one boarder from New York at C. BEECHER's.

August 11 Rock Valley - Four young men from Girdland, Pennsylvania visited at John SNYDER's Saturday and Sunday, came on their wheels; two of them were brothers of Mr. SNYDER.

J. Newton SMITH of Metuchen, NJ, is visiting at A. Y.. HAIGHT's.

Mrs. Victor HAGUARD, of Washington, DC, is now at her father's, E. J. HAIGHT.

September 08 Goulds- September 6- Born to Mr. and Mrs. William Milk, a daughter.

Charles HOFFMAN has sold his lambs to Charles FOOTE.

Rock Valley - Mr. and Mrs. O. M HAIGHT have just returned from Bethel, Sullivan County, where they have been visiting her sister.

September 22 Rock Valley- September 19- H. PFEIFFER lost a valuable horse Friday last.

September 29 Goulds- September 27- Miss Julia TINKLEPAUGH, of the Basket, is visiting her nieces, Mrs. D. RICKARD and Mrs. W. C. GOULD.

October 06 Rock Valley- The carpenters, Mr. THOMAS and others are putting up C. RICKARD's house.

November 03 Harry and Belle COURTRIGHT were still living in Hancock on October 27, 1898, as they attended the wedding of Flora B. MOASE and Ord L. SANDS. (PERSONAL NOTE: They are brother and sister, children of Ransom)

Rock Valley - October 31- E. J. HAIGHT has realized 5,000 pounds of hone this season from 120 colonies of bees and Jasper had 2,000 pounds from 40 colonies.

A surprise party of young people were at A. G. HAIGHT's on Friday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter HAIGHT have gone to Norwich, where they expect to spend the winter.

Mr. WEIDNER and Miss Maggie SNYDER from Girdland, Pennsylvania were guests at John SNYDER's on Saturday and Sunday.

November 24 Goulds- November 21- J. DeGROAT has a houseful of boarders, wood choppers.

December 29 Rock Valley - Mrs. E. FURMAN of Rockland, is a guest at A. J. HAIGHT's.

September 21 p.8-Goulds--September 18--Mrs. Charles BIFFAR and son Johnny are spending a few weeks with her father, John BIEDEKAPP.

A. L. MILK, Irvin TINKLEPAUGH of this place and Chas. BEECHER of Rock Valley are busy thrashing the farmers grain.

Rock Valley-September 18--C. RICKARD attended the Fair at Walton. Also Mrs. WHITAKER, Mrs. J. INMAN and A. M. CHANDLER.

November 02 p.8--Rock Valley--October 23--These were guests at J. W. SNYDER's Saturday and Sunday: Mrs. SNYDER's sister Maggie and Dan WEIDNER, of Girdland, Pa. (NOTE: Maggie was Mr. SNYDER's sister, not Mrs. SNYDER as in the newspaper)

November 23 p.4--Rock Valley--November 20--Chris SNYDER broke his arm, we understand, by a fall.

John MILK cut his leg quite badly while cutting wood recently.

December 28 p.1--John A. MILK of Goulds married Calla A. PEAK of Long Eddy, Thursday, December 21st at Callicoon Depot.

1900

January 18 p.8--Goulds--January 16--W. SNYDER was in Roscoe on business one day last week.

February 01 p.1--Goulds--January 30--Our band boys are still pressing onward with Orvil HUGHES, Christian SNYDER, Ernest EMRICH and Wm SNYDER as new members.

Mr. and Mrs. Chas. BIFFAR have moved to Sherman, Pa. We understand that Mr. BIFFAR is to be forman in an acid factory.

February 15 p.8--Goulds--Lena MILK has gone to Sherman, Pa. to stay a few weeks with her aunt Mrs. Charles BIFFAR.

March 01 p..4--Rock Valley-February 26--Little Irvin SNYDER has been sick with croup the past week.

April 12 p.8-Rock Valley--April 9--Mrs. Charles BIFFAR of Sherman, Pa. is visiting her parents and friends in this place.

May 24 p.8--Rock Valley--May 21--John SNYDER and family have gone for a visit to Guerdling, Pa. (should be Girdland)

June 14 p.8--Goulds--June 11--Messrs. Orvil HUGHES, Wm. and Chris SNYDER and Rush LAKE have gone to Pennsylvania to peel bark.

p.8--Rock Valley--June 11--Four of our young men started Tuesday of last week for Costello, Pa. to peel bark. They were Chris and Wm. SNYDER, Orville HUGHES and Rush LAKE. We wish them success.

July 05 p.8--Rock Valley--July 2--Mrs. John SNYDER sprained her ankle while getting out of a wagon on Saturday, which will keep her confined to the house some days.

July 19 p.8--Rock Valley--July 16--On the 5th of July there was a quiet wedding at John SNYDER's. The contracting parties were D. WEIDNER of Guerdling, Pa.(Girdland) and Maggie SNYDER, sister to John SNYDER. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Murry of Hortonville.

August 30 p.8--Rock Valley--August 27--Harry APPLE and his daughter of Girdland, Pa. are visiting at John SNYDER's.

September 27 p.8-Rock Valley--September 25--Three persons were taken into the church on Sunday last, namely: Mrs. John SNYDER, Willie HALSEY and Lena OESTRICH.

October 11 Goulds-October 8--Miss Lena MILK who has been at Sherman, Pa. visiting her aunt, Mrs. Chas. BIFFAR, has returned home.

October 18 p.8-Rock Valley--October 15--Our church has had a new coat of paint. The work was done by painters from Deposit. The same men are now painting H. PFEIFFER's house.

H. PFEIFFER lost a valuable horse last week, caused from injuries received in getting into a wire fence.

John SNYDER had his foot bruised quite badly by a stone falling on it.

1901

January 31 p.8--Goulds--January 28--Miss Nellie MILK of this place and John RUTZ of Eminence, were married January 9, 1901.

February 28 Starlight--Charles HAYNES has gone to Straights, Elk Co. where he is engaged in lumbering at the present.

April 26 Rock Valley--John SNYDER has gone to Honesdale where he expects to buy a lot of shoes and other articles for the Grange Store.

May 02 Goulds--E. HUGHES packed his "Turkey" and started for Pa. a week ago. Wonder who will be next?

June 27 Rock Valley--H. PFIEFFER was badly hurt in a runaway horse crash but he is slowly recovering. He will not be able to work for sometime. Dr. STEARNS is attending him.

July 11 Rock Valley--Mr. and Mrs. D. WEIDNER of Girdland, Pa., were guests at John SNYDER's last week.

August 22 Rock Valley--H. PFEIFFER has been to Hancock to see Dr. ALLEN twice during the past two weeks and seems to he helped by his visits there.

October 17 Rock Valley--A little boy is a newcomer at John SNYDER's.

October 30 Rock Valley--John SNYDER went last week to Guerdon, Pa. (NOTE: This should be Girdland, PA)

December 12 Goulds--Charles HUGHES and Irv. TINKLEPAUGH who came from Potter County, Pa. last Friday said there was little snow there.

1902

January 09 Rock Valley--John SNYDER attended the wedding of his cousin in Honesdale.

February 20 Rock Valley-- H. PFIEFFER is having trouble with the injury in his side. He takes a trip to Hancock every week or so to see Dr. ALLEN.

April 03 Rock Valley--John SNYDER has been filling his store with dry goods.

L.A.S. will meet at Mrs. John SNYDER's on the next regular meeting day.

May 30 Maple Hill, Pa.--Ray BEDFORD, formerly of this place, has gone to Straights, Pa. where his brother Ralph is at work.

July 03 Rock Valley--Friends from Girdland, Pa. were guests of John SNYDER's Saturday and Sunday.

July 17 Rock Valley--Mr. and Mrs. Dan WEIDNER from Girdland, Pa. were guests at J. SNYDER's last week.

September 04 Rock Valley--John SNYDER and C. BEECHER went to Fallsdale, Pa. to see the creamery there.

November 20 Rock Valley--H. PFIEFFER has been on a visit to Honesdale and has just returned.

1903

February 05 Rock Valley--February 2-A telegram came this morning to John SNYDER informing him of the sad news of the death of his brother Chris SNYDER. He had been working in Elk Co., Pa. for the past year. He died of diphtheria. John has now gone out there to attend to his burial.

March 12 Rock Valley--L.A.S. will meet next time with Mrs. John SNYDER.

June 04 Rock Valley--Clark BUSH and John SNYDER took a trip to Girdland, Pa. on Sunday.

August 13 Rock Valley--J. SNYDER was elected trustee here and has engaged Jennie CALKINS as teacher.

August 28 Rock Valley--John SNYDER went to Dehli last week.

December 03 Rock Valley--John SNYDER and C. MAY have taken 500 cords of wood to cut for HOOLIHAN.

1904

March 31 Rock Valley--John SNYDER took a trip to Hancock last week.

April 29 Rock Valley--C. BIFFAR of Fernwood has bought John SNYDER's store.

July 14 Rock Valley--Visitors in the place at John SNYDER's , Mr. and Mrs. L. SNYDER and family.

Rock Valley--John SNYDER had charge of the Creamery while Mr. JONES went to attend his mother's funeral near Ithaca.

August 18 Rock Valley--John SNYDER was elected trustee in this school district.

September 01 Rock Valley--Mr. and Mrs. SNYDER took their son Fred to Hancock to get an abcess lanced. He is now improving.

October 13 Rock Valley--John SNYDER, Charles BEECHER and Charles BIFFAR went to Honesdale to attend the Fair.

1905

March 23 Rock Valley--Henry SNYDER of Scranton was a guest of his cousin, John SNYDER last week.

April 20 Rock Valley--John SNYDER who took the job of cutting a 1,000 cord of wood, had a bee last Wednesday to help pile it.

June 08 Rock Valley--George KNORR and wife from Girdland, Pa. were guests at John SNYDER's last week. Mr. and Mrs. John SNYDER have gone to Girdland for a visit.

The Ladies Aid have changed the time of the meeting to Friday, the 16th to be held at John SNYDER's.

July 06 Rock Valley--Conductor STRADER and wife of Port Jervis were guests of John SNYDER's last week.

August 24 Rock Valley--Mrs. John SNYDER elected secretary of L.A.S.

October 26 Rock Valley--Conductor STRADER and wife of Port Jervis are spending a few days at John SNYDER's.

1906

March 08 Rock Valley--John SNYDER went to Hancock on business last week.

L.A.S. will meet at Mrs. John SNYDER's on March 15th.

October 18 Rock Valley--John SNYDER lost a horse a week ago.

October 25 Rock Valley--Mr. and Mrs. STRADER of Port Jervis are guests of John SNYDER.

November 22 Rock Valley--John SNYDER has a new team of horses.

1907

January 03 Rock Valley--John SNYDER lost a cow, it fell on the ice.

April 18 Rock Valley--John SNYDER brought a brand new Munn piano to his home.

May 02 Rock Valley--John SNYDER with his force of men is working on the roads.

May 09 Goulds--John SNYDER, Road Commissioner, and a force of 8 or 10 men are busy working on the roads.

June 20 Rock Valley--Lizzie SNYDER has returned home from a visit to her friend in Port Jervis. She also visited New York. Her friend Miss EASTMAN came home with her to spend a few days.

September 12 Rock Valley--Mr. and Mrs. SNAVELY and Mr. and Mrs. SAUFT of Fallsdale were guests of J. W. SNYDER's last week.

October 03 Rock Valley--Mrs. Henry PFEIFFER died suddenly on Friday (September 27, 1907) last. The funeral was held on Sunday.

1908

September 24 Goulds--John SNYDER of Rock Valley attended the State Fair in Syracuse.

1909

April 22 p.8-Goulds-April 20-John SNYDER of Rock Valley, road commissioner, with a gang of men and two road machines are working the roads in this place.

August 12 p.9 Rock Valley- August 10--Lesila MILK of Brooklyn is visiting at John RUTZ's.

John SNYDER is building a wagon house.

Mrs. Charles BIFFAR and Mrs. W. WAGNER attended the Mite Society at A. Shrier's on Wednesday last.

August 19 p.2--High School Students--Below will be found a list of the Students of the Hancock High School as classified in June 1909--- Academic Department-Fred H. SNYDER of Rock Valley.

August 26 p.8--Rock Valley--August 23--Fred and Irvin SNYDER visited friends at Fallsdale, Pa. last week.

September 02 p.1 - Killed at Long Eddy--Our Rock Valley correspondent says: Peter RUTZ, who for a number of years had been a resident of this place, was killed by a train No. 1 at Long Eddy on August 27th. He was thrown some distance and quite badly mangled. The funeral services were held in the Long Eddy Roman Catholic church with burial in the cemetery at Rock Valley. Mr. RUTZ was a man respected by everyone.

October 14 p.8-Rock Valley-October 12--Fred SNYDER spent Sunday last with his parents.

Miss Lizzie SNYDER is spending a few weeks in Honesdale, PA.

November 25 p.1-High School Notes--Academic List-First quarter "Fred SNYDER, 5 subjects with 93% standing"

January 06 p.4--Rock Valley-January 4--While throwing snowballs, Fred SNYDER broke the bone in his arm above the elbow. Dr. Male reduced the fracture.

Miss Lizzie SNYDER is home at present. 1910 January 27 p.8-Rock Valley-January 25--Mr. and Mrs. John W. SNYDER spent a few days in Callicoon last week.

Miss Lizzie SNYDER returned to Honesdale recently.

Fred SNYDER returned to his studies at Hancock High School on Monday last.

February 03 p.1-High School Notes - Honor list-Second Quarter "Fred H. SNYDER, 5 subjects with 93% standing"

February 17 p.8-Long Eddy-February 13--Mr. and Mrs. William MILK of Rock Valley lost their oldest daughter, Miss Katie, aged 14 years, 1 month, February 9th. Funeral was held Friday at Rock Valley church and was largely attended. It seems doubly sad to see the young with so many years and so much before them, taken. The sympathy of a large circle of relatives and friends are with them in their sorrow.

March 31 p.8-Rock Valley-March 29- Fred SNYDER is home for Easter Break.

April 21 p.1-High School Notes - Academic Dept Honor List-Third quarter "Fred SNYDER, 5 subjects with 95% standing"

p.8--Rock Valley-April 19- Mr. and Mrs. Charles BEECHER went to Hancock Sunday to attend the funeral of his nephew, Charles WHITAKER, son of Fred WHITAKER. Others who attended were John SNYDER and wife and Will BEECHER and wife.

Fred SNYDER spent Saturday with his parents.

April 28 p.8-Rock Valley-April 26-J. W. SNYDER and H. PFEIFFER made a business trip to Hancock on Saturday last.

May 12 p.8-Goulds-May 9--John SNYDER of Rock Valley and men are busy working roads. 1910 May 26 p.8-Rock Valley-May 24-Fred SNYDER spent Saturday last with his parents.

June 16 p.4-Rock Valley-June 14-Miss Elizabeth SNYDER spent a few days in Hancock recently.

June 23 p.8-Rock Valley-June 21-Fred SNYDER and Ella Simons, who have been attending Hancock High School during the past year, are home for their summer vacation.

July 07 p.1-Goulds-July 5--J. W. SNYDER and gang of men are making improvements on the Rock Valley road. Fred Tompkins runs the steam roller.

Mr. and Mrs. John RUTZ and daughter, Lettie, went to Binghamton last week. They visited their aunt, Mrs. Caroline Hinamen.

August 04 p.8-Rock Valley-August 2-Miss Lizzie SNYDER and Miss Ella Simon are working at White Sulphur Springs during the boarding season.

August 11 p.8-Rock Valley-August 8-J. W. SNYDER and H. PFEIFFER made a trip to Binghamton last week.

The officers elected at the school meeting were John SNYDER, trustee; John RUTZ, clerk; W. Simon, collector.

September 01 p.4-Rock Valley-August 29-Miss Lizzie SNYDER and Miss Ella Simon who have spent the summer at White Sulphur Springs, returned to their home Saturday last.

Miss Edith Wright of Troy is a guest at J. W. SNYDER's at present.

September 15 p.8-Rock Valley-Sept 13- Mr. and Mrs. George KNORR, Mr. and Mrs. Marten Snavely of Fallsdale, Pa and Mr. and Mrs. John SNYDER of this place are attending the state fair at Syracuse this week.

Irvin SNYDER spent last week in New York City.

Fred SNYDER went to Hancock on Monday to commence the year at the High School.

November 17 p.1-rock Valley-November 15-Fred SNYDER spent last Saturday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. SNYDER.

December 22 p.8-Rock Valley-December 20-John SNYDER was called last week to St. Marys, Pa. on account of the illness of his brother Lewis's wife. There is no hope for her recovery.

January 19 p.8-Rock Valley-January 17--Fred SNYDER of Hancock High School is spending this week at his home in this place.

February 02 High School Notes - Academic Department-Second Quarter "Fred SNYDER 85-90% standing."

February 09 p.8-Rock Valley-February 7--Miss Elizabeth SNYDER, who has been spending a few weeks with her parents in this place, returned to Honesdale on Saturday last.

May 04 p.4-Rock Valley-- J. W. SNYDER and Mr. Moore took a trip to Middletown last week.

June 01 p.4-Rock Valley--May 29--Mr. and Mrs. J. W. SNYDER are visiting friends at Honesdale, Pa.

July 13 p.8-rock Valley-July 11-Miss Lizzie SNYDER went to Lake Huntington to work during the boarding season.

November 16 p.1-Rock Valley-November 14--Mrs. Charles BIFFAR, who has been ill for the past 3 weeks, does not improve very fast.

Miss Jeannett MILK is staying with her aunt, Mrs. BIFFAR, for the past 2 weeks.

January 18 Long Eddy-January 15--Wm FITCH, overseer of the Luzerne chemical Company's acid factory here, was called to Emporium, Pa., to see his father who is sick. Charles BIFFAR of Rock Valley is looking after the interests of the company during Mr. FITCH'S absence.

February 01 p.4-Rock Valley-John RUTZ is doing quite a business lumbering this winter.

February 08 p.1-High School Notes-Academic Department-Second Quarter: Fred SNYDER 91% 1912 February 22 p.4-rock Valley--February 20-Miss Elizabeth SNYDER and friend spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John SNYDER.

February 29 p.8-Rock Valley-February 26--Mr. and Mrs. John RUTZ went to Walton to attend the funeral of Mrs. Anna OESTRICH.

May 16 p.8-Rock Valley-May 14--John RUTZ had his house painted recently.

June 06 Rock Valley-June 3--Mrs. J. W. SNYDER will entertain the Ladies' Aid Society on June 12th.

John and Irvin SNYDER went to Honesdale on Saturday last, returning Sunday. They were accompanied by Misses Lizzie and Margaret SNYDER who have been spending some time in Honesdale.

Theo. BIFFAR of Nebraska is visiting his brother Chas. BIFFAR at present.

August 08 p.4-Rock Valley-August 5--Fred SNYDER took a trip to Hancock on Wednesday last week.

September 05 p.8-Rock Valley-September 3--J. W. SNYDER and the road gang are putting in a piece of stone road for about a quarter of a mile on the road to Long Eddy.

Miss Lizzie SNYDER returned home Friday last. She has been spending a few weeks @ Roscoe.

Miss Vera HUNT visited @ J. W. SNYDER's last week.

September 12 p.1-Going to College--Following graduates of Hancock High School who are attending college: Fred H. SNYDER--New York University.

November 28 p.8-Rock Valley-November 26--John SNYDER purchased John BEIDEKAPP's farm recently.

December 12 p.8-Goulds-December 10--We shall be very sorry to lose Mr. and Mrs. John BEIDEKAPP, who have sold their farm to John SNYDER.

December 26 p.8-Rock Valley-December 23--Fred and Lizzie SNYDER are spending their Christmas vacation at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. SNYDER.

Charles and John BIFFAR are spending a few days at their home in this place.

January 09 p.8-Rock Valley--January 7--Mr. and Mrs. John BIEDEKAPP and Mr. and Mrs. A. L. MILK visited at Chas. BIFFAR's on Sunday last.

Lewis KORB of Honesdale, Pa was a guest at J. W. SNYDER's during the past week.

The severe wind storm on Friday last blew out four window lights at J. W. SNYDER's house.

Mr. and Mrs. J. W. SNYDER spent a week at St. Marys, Pa recently.

May 15 p.8-Long Eddy: The funeral of Eliza Knox BIEDEKAPP was held from the Rock Valley church Sunday morning at 8a.m. The remains were then taken to Walton for burial. Mrs. BIEDEKAPP was well known in this place having spent a long and useful life on a farm near here. In order to enjoy a more peaceful life, where they could have better advantages, Mr. and Mrs. BIEDEKAPP had sold their farm and were about to move to Walton. But it was otherwise decreed and the silver cord, binding her to the frailities of life were loosened, and Mrs. BIEDEKAPP passed peacefully to her reward.

Catherine BIEDEKAPP, widow of the late John BIEDEKAPP, 86 years old on February 11, 1924 one of the oldest inhabitants of the area. Her and her husband came from Germany. Survivors: 3 daughters, Mrs. Amelia MILK, Mrs. Abram MILK, Mrs. C. BIFFAR. Funeral Wednesday, March 12, 1924.

September 04 Page 1--Miss Lettie RUTZ, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John RUTZ of Rock Valley and Carl SNYDER, son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. SNYDER of the same place, were united in marriage Monday morning at 10 a.m., September 1st at St. Joseph College at Callicoon. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Louis FARRELL. Miss Helen HOFFMAN of Hankins was the bridesmaid and John RUTZ, brother of the bride was best man. The brides dress was of powder blue satin with hat to match. After the ceremony the bridal party was conveyed to the home of the bride's parents where a breakfast was served to the immediate families. Mrs. SNYDER is a graduate of Callicoon High School and has been a successful teacher in Sullivan and Delaware counties. After an auto trip to Niagara Falls and other points west, the happy couple will begin housekeeping at Rock Valley where Mr. SNYDER is engaged in the lumber business.

May 19 Golden Wedding Celebrated by Corning, Calif, Couple. Mr. and Mrs. John HOFFMAN entertained with a dinner Monday evening at their home on 4th Avenue, the occasion being the 50th anniversary of their marriage. The menu consisted of turkey with all the trimmings. A large yellow bride's cake with 1877-1927 decorating it was the main feature. Charming music interspersed the affair. Mr. and Mrs. HOFFMAN received many handsome gifts, consisting of jewelry, gold candlesticks, china a a purse containing seventy dollars in gold. May 26 Rock Valley - May 23 - Carl SNYDER came home on Saturday. Mrs. SNYDER will return with him to Philadelphia where they expect to make their future home.

Marion BIFFAR has been quite ill, but is much better now.

June 02 Rock Valley - May 30 - Miss Marion BIFFAR is ill with the measles.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth HAIGHT with sister, Vera of Bridgeport, Conn., visited at the home of Jasper HAIGHT, Sunday and Monday.

June 09 Rock Valley - June 6 - John RUTZ, Jr. who teaches at Lava motored home Friday night. Mr. RUTZ will teach at Fernwood this fall.

June 16 Rock Valley - June 13 - Mr. and Mrs. J. W. SNYDER took a trip to Hancock on Saturday last; also Fred BEECHER and family.

June 23 Goulds - June 20 - Mrs. M. C. MILK has returned form the hospital much improved. June 30 Rock Valley - June 27 - John RUTZ who has been working in Narrowsburg spent Sunday with his parents.

July 07 Rock Valley - July 5 - Mr. and Mrs. J. F. RUTZ entertained Mr. and Mrs. BRUNNER over the Fourth, and are also entertaining Mr. and Mrs. HOFFMAN for a couple of weeks.

H. L. HAIGHT, Frank and Lloyd HAIGHT were guests at J. L. HAIGHT's over Sunday. July 21 Rock Valley - July 18- Misses Dorothy and Margueritte KORB of Honesdale, Pa spent a week at J. W. SNYDER's.

July 28 Rock Valley - July 25 - Mr. and Mrs. Lewis KORB and children of Honesdale, Pa and Mr. and Mrs. J. BIFFAR of this place were entertained by Mr. and Mrs. J. W. SNYDER.

August 11 Rock Valley - Aug 8 - Fred SNYDER and family of Philadelphia were guests at J. W. SNYDER's.

John RUTZ is spending a week with his parents.

Mrs. Carl SNYDER and little daughter are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. RUTZ. J. L. HAIGHT and E. J. HAIGHT, Miss Doris HAIGHT and Miss Eva BROUGH took a trip to Hancock on Saturday.

August 18 Page 1 -HULSE FAMILY REUNION A family reunion was held at the home of Mrs. Margaret HULSE, Long Eddy, August 14. There were a large number present and all enjoyed a good time. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Jos KILLIE of Hancock; Mr and Mrs. Irving SNYDER, Theodore and Edward HULSE of Long Eddy; Mrs. John KATTAIN, Mrs. Paul HULSE and son William, Jay FISHER, Mrs. Margaret KESSENGER of Port Jervis, Miss Lottie WHISLER and son Edward of Masthrope, Edward GOODWILL of Lava, and the following grandchildren: Dottie, Edward & Jackie HULSE, Jackie and Frank SNYDER.

September 08 Rock Valley - Sept 6 - Mr. and Mrs. Carl SNYDER and little daughter Joyce, who have been visiting their paternal homes in this place, returned to Philadelphia Thursday last.

Mr. and Mrs. V. A. KEESLER and Mrs. C. BIFFAR took a trip to Honesdale recently.

Fred BEECHER, J. W. SNYDER and Mr. and Mrs. J. D. MAY attended the fair at Walton on Thursday last.

Lewis KORB and family of Honesdale, Pa and Mr. and Mrs. D. WEIDNER and daughter and niece were guests at J. W. SNYDER's on Sunday last.

Fred BEECHER has purchased a whippet six and John RUTZ, Jr. a Nash.

September 15 Rock Valley - Sept 13 - -Mrs. W. WAGNER, J. W. SNYDER and Miss Ada BIEDEKAPP attended a committee meeting at the parsonage at Long Eddy on Saturday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred BEECHER and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. SNYDER motored to Hancock Saturday night. John RUTZ and lady friend and Mr. and Mrs. J. F. RUTZ and little granddaughter took a trip to Walton recently.

J. F. RUTZ is building a new poultry house. K. October 06 Rock Valley - Oct 3 - Mr. and Mrs. J. W. SNYDER, Mr. and Mrs. J. BIFFAR and Mrs. C. F. BIFFAR attended the fair at Honesdale, Pa on Thursday of last week.

Mr. and Mrs. J. BIFFAR and daughter, and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. SNYDER spent a day at Irvin SNYDER's recently.

October 13 Goulds Oct 10 - Prof. Lee MILK and family of Fleischmanns spent the weekend at Mrs. Amelia MILK.

Rock Valley - Oct 10 - Mr. and Mrs. Fred BEECHER visited Mr. and Mrs. D. E. MIL at DeBruce on Sunday last.

John RUTZ and Mr. and Mrs. J. F. RUTZ are spending a week in Philadelphia as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Carl SNYDER.

Mr. and Mrs. John MILK and children spent the weekend at Pond Eddy, Pa with Mr. and Mrs. Lyman CHANDLER.

About forty friends surprised Mr. and Mrs. C. F. BIFFAR on Friday evening of last week. All report a very enjoyable evening.

Long Eddy - Oct 10 - Mr. and Mrs. Chas. HOFFMAN of Hankins called on relatives in town on Sunday. November 17 Rock Valley - Nov 14 - News was received of the death of Mrs. O. M. HAIGHT of Dunraven, but formerly of this place on Monday of last week.

Mrs. J. W. SNYDER sprained her ankle quite badly on day last week.

Mr. and Mrs. C. F. BIFFAR spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. L. B. CHANDLER at Pond Eddy, recently.

OBIT- MRS. ALICE TINKLEPAUGH- Following an illness of nearly three years, during which time she hadbeen confined to her bed. Mrs. Alice TINKLEPAUGH, aged 77 years, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 10th, at the home of E. J. EMRICH, Rock Valley. Descendant was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey HUGHS, born in 1850 at Goulds, NY, where she had lived her entire life with the exception of about the past two years which were passed in the home of Mr. EMRICH at Rock Valley. In 1866 she married the last Frank TINKLEPAUGH. To them were born three sons, Irving, of Deposit; W. V. and Frank, of Hancock, and one daughter, Mrs. Daniel RICKARD, of Goulds, who survive. Mrs. TINKELPAUGH was a much respected resident, a good neighbor and kind friend. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at Goulds, Rev. D. CATALDO, officiating. Interment at Goulds.

November 24 Long Eddy - Nov 21 - Mrs. Irv SNYDER went to Port Jervis Saturday returning home Sunday.

Rock Valley - Nov 21 - Mr. and Mrs. Fred BEECHER are rejoicing over the birth of a little daughter. Fred BEECHER, Mrs. M. C. MILK, Mrs. C. F. BIFFAR and Mrs. J. BECHT went to Binghamton to see Mrs. BEECHER and the new daughter. Mrs. BEECHER is recovering nicely, according to the latest report.

Mr. and Mrs. J. F. RUTZ and Mrs. J. W. SNYDER, and Miss Thelma HUGHS re spending a few days in Philadelphia.

Miss Ada BIEDEKAPP returned home on Thursday after a two week stay at L. MILK's. October 27 Rock Valley - Oct 24 - A large number of friends gave Mr. and Mrs. J. W. SNYDER a surprise party on Friday night. Gustave BIEDEKAPP and Miss Ada BIEDEKAPP spent a day at W. WAGNER's last week.

Mrs. Morris PEAKE and daughter spent Friday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William MILK. November 03 Long Eddy - Oct 31 - Mrs. Irving SNYDER returned from a visit to Port Jervis with relatives. Marie KESSENGER brought her home in a car Thursday.

Rock valley - Nov 1 - Miss Ada BIEDEKAPP and Mrs. W. WAGNER took a motor trip to Liberty one day last week.

Gustave BIEDEKAPP and Ada BIEDEKAPP, Gustave OESTRICH and family attended the dedication of the M. E. Church in Abrahamville, PA on Saturday last.

Mr. and Mrs. J. RUTZ and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. SNYDER attended the movies at Callicoon on Tuesday evening.

Lewis KORB and family of Honesdale, Pa spent Sunday with relatives in this place. November 10 Goulds - Nov 7 - Mr. and Mrs. Lester MILK are rejoicing over a baby girl. The little Miss is called Nora.

December 08 Rock Valley - Dec 5 - John RUTZ attended the teacher's conference in Liberty last week. Miss Eva HAIGHT, who has been spending the last couple of weeks with Mrs. E. HEDIN at Cadosia, returned home on Sunday last.

Mrs. J. BIFFAR is caring for her mother, Mrs. J. W. SNYDER, who is quite ill.

Mrs. John SNYDER is ill at her home with Dr. FRISBIE in attendance.

December 22 Goulds - Dec 19- Lester MILK purchased a new horse last Friday near Trout Creek. Kenneth MEDLAR rode the horse home.

Rock Valley - Dec 19 - Mrs. J. W. SNYDER was presented a sunshine box by her many friends Saturday last.

Mrs. SNYDER who has been quite ill, we are glad to say, is slowly gaining.

Mrs. John BIFFAR, who has been caring for her mother, has been confined to her home with tonsillitis. Agatha and Susie SIMON called on Mrs. John SNYDER Saturday last.

December 29 Rock Valley - Dec 27 - Mrs. J. F. RUTZ is spending a week with her daughter, Mrs. C. SNYDER, in Philadelphia.

Mr. and Mrs. J. W. SNYDER and Mr. and Mrs. C. F. BIFFAR were entertained by Mr. and Mrs. John BIFFAR on Christmas.
