Catherine (Dumond) VanAkin's Will
I took the liberty to add Catherine's maiden name in the Title since there were quite a few Catherine VanAkin's at that time. --Nan Whitcomb, 1 Dec 2018
Be it remembered that at a Surrogate Court, held at the Court House in Delhi: in and for the County of Delaware on the 29th day of July 1867, the Last Will and Testament of Catherine Van Akin late of the town of Delhi, in the County of Delaware deceased was duly proved before Hon William Murray Jr. Surrogate of said County and was by the said Surrogate declared and adjudged Valid and Established as a Will of Real and Personal Estate, and the same together with the Proofs and Examinations taken thereon are pursuant to an Order of the said Surrogate here recorded to wit.
In the Name of God Amen
I Catherine Van Aikin being of sound mind and memory, and considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life, do therefore Make, Ordain, publish, and Declare this to be my Last Will and Testament: That is to say, first after all my lawful debts are paid and discharged, I give and bequeath to my beloved Daughter Catherine Van Akin all of my personal property and effects together with my household furniture of every kind.
I also give and bequeath to my same beloved Daughter Catherine Van Akin the free use benefit and control of all my Real Estate, to have and hold the same for her natural life time. And after the death of my daughter Catherine Van Akin, I will and bequeath that my Real Estate shall be equally divided between all my children or their heirs.
Likewise I make, constitute and appoint my Daughter Catherine Van Akin Executrix and Horatio N. Buckley to be Executor of this my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former Wills by Me Made.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed My Name and affixed my seal, the 31st day of December in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty Six.
